Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

You need to meet with your academic advisor and interview him/her/them. The purpose of the interview is to connect with your advisor learn a little about them and introduce yourself.  Some questions will be provided but you are expected to ask something YOU want to know. Following the interview, write an essay comparing and contrasting him/herself and the advisor.

Choose at least five of the following topics to discuss: hobbies, lifestyle, upbringing, view on global awareness, places you grew-up/lived, family size, academic/professional interests, undergraduate major, clothing style, learning style, best and worst memories from high school, places you have vacationed/traveled, places you want to vacation/travel and favorite media (movies, music, books, games, etc.). Essays are three-five pages (full pages) in Times New Roman 12 double space. More about specifics in class.

The essay is due no later than Friday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m.

Advisor Interview
Dr. Kelley Crowley FYS

And then she told us how to quote someone. Crowley said, “I love my FYS class. They are a smart bunch.” She also said to start each paragraph with an indentation and NOT to separate the paragraphs with a space. Each page should have about 225-250 words on a Times New Roman 12 point double spaced page. She said not to fudge the spacing, leading, fonts or margins. It always looks like you are trying to fudge, therefore, a professor will assume that you are fudging and assume something lower.
You start a new paragraph when you start a new idea. DO NOT turn in a paper that is one long paragraph. You need to be able to show that you understand how information is organized; mastery of the use of paragraphs is a key element to revealing that skill.
Sub-heads
You can consider using subheads to help organize your information but do not use them in place of organizational flow[CK2]  Each paragraph is a little self-contained world. It has a beginning, middle and an ending that leads you into the next idea. Think of how great comedians tie a story together and don’t just say one joke after another. There is a narrative flow.
Because this is a Crowley Class, I want you to be creative with your interviews. As long as all the factual information is correct, you can take that information and make it into any kind of narrative that you want. For example, you can pretend that your advisor is a former rock star, or currently a double agent for the Soviets, or an angel trying to earn his wings or a former professor at Hogwarts or WHAT EVER. Be creative. Use your brain. Stretch yourself.
Before you go into this interview have AT LEAST 10 questions to ask your advisor. You can’t develop a story for your advisor is if you don’t know anything about them. Take the time to look at their office. Use clues from the office to help you tell your story. Ask others in your major about this professor to help you get some ideas.
Finally, make sure that you get someone to READ your document before you turn it in to me. We all make some stylistic and grammatical errors and they can easily be avoided if you either: 1. Take your paper to the Writing Center for review or 2. Ask the smartest person you have met so far (you can even ask another professor) to look at your paper for some suggestions. You don’t always have to take those suggestions but if you spell Crawley incorrectly or licence (that is the one that always gets me) then you have no excuses. I have NO tolorence for misspelled words. (Note that Word helps you here. Do not ignore it.)

[CK1]The header for the paper is single spaced and includes all the important information.
[CK2]Note the use of the page number. How do you think we organized information before page numbers?
